Goodbye to Miss Cristina

This week we said “Goodbye” to Miss Cristina who has been helping us in Year 3 since January. To remember her, we made paella magnets – a favourite dish from Spain where Miss Cristina comes from. We wish her lots of luck in the future and hope to hear from her often!

Thank you for all your help!

The Trapped Tiger

Year Three are learning about play scripts in literacy. We are using The Trapped Tiger as our story and have been using drama to help us learn the story.

Walking in the woods…

Walking in the woods on PhotoPeach

Year 3 made use of our beautiful Treasure Wood when writing a description of a woodland. We used our senses to help us describe what we could see, hear, touch, smell and how we felt.

Wildlife at Brookburn

This week Year 3 were exploring our woodland and we saw a Ring Necked Parakeet perched on a branch in one of the trees. Brookburn has fantastic grounds and I have seen lots of exciting wildlife here in the school grounds – herons, orange tip and brimstone butterflies, buzzards and rabbits.

What wildlife have you seen either at school or at home?

International day

On the last day of this half term, we celebrated International Day.

In Year 3, we decided to learn about China. We created willow pattern plates including an image of something personal to ourselves. We also made fantastic fruity spring rolls using rice paper wraps and lots of beautiful, fresh fruit. Finally, we created Chinese banners using chinese characters to spell out our names.

We also had a Spanish Disco in our classroom, thanks to Miss Daven

In the afternoon, we took part in the whole school celebration assembly. Year 3 had a very important part to play by performing the french language version of the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle – La Chenille Qui Fait Des Trous.

Half Term Homework

Volcano Project

This half term we have been learning about volcanoes. Can you make a model of a volcano that can be displayed in school? You can choose the materials that you would like to use for your model!

Numeracy

Our target tables for Year 3 are the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 multiplication tables. Over the holidays, spend some time learning these multiplication facts. The order that we would like you to learn your multiplication tables is:
x2 multiplication tables
x10 multiplication tables
x5 multiplication tables
x3 multiplication tables
x4 multiplication tables
x8 multiplication tables
Keep trying to improve your recall speed. Only progress to the next set of tables once you can recall facts out of order. Get someone to test you at home 🙂
If you can recall all of the facts with speed, do you know the division facts?

Thank you for your support!

Have a wonderful half term everyone 🙂
